A Beginner’s Guide for Writing an Essay

Be it in academic or your professional career, writing an essay is something which is used in almost every way of life. Be it a press release, an email to your boss or an essay itself, essay writing and formatting is used in almost every writing method.  This carefully developed article is for those, who are finding it difficult to structure their essay, be it a college student or an employed personnel. Choosing Title

Before starting off with writing your essay, the first and foremost thing you need to do is to decide on your topic of interest. The topic may be provided by your teacher, or you will be asked to choose yourself. No matter, who chooses your topic, be sure you know about the details of it. In simple terms, being in your school, you would not be able to write about rocket science, right?

If you have the chance to choose the topic yourself, than do not consider getting a topic which is controversial, like religion or world politics. You cannot gather enough evidence to support your point in an essay, so it is useful if you just skip these two categories. The second most important thing about a topic is the phrase you use. The title must be catchy and must appeal the reader, so that he gives a read through your paper.

 

Outline of paper

The second step, after deciding on the topic, is to develop a thesis statement. A thesis statement is mostly a single sentence that informs the reader the purpose of your essay or in case of an argumentative essay, your argument for a particular topic. Then comes the outline, which is basically the previous studies done regarding the title you choose, plus a short summary of your essay including the main points and the issue you are addressing in your paper. For example, in this article, we are addressing, how to write a better essay, the target audience and how it will be useful for readers.

 

Introduction

The next paragraph would be to introduce your paper, including what your topic is about, what the previous studies are done, their results and your opinion.

Do note, the introduction is just a small part of your essay, do not drag it too long as the reader will needs facts to prove your point, which you will have to mention in the body.

 

Main Body

As stated previously, before starting an essay you will need to research and read through articles, relevant to your topic, so the body contains all your facts and figures supporting your point of view. The idea is to present both sides of an argument or topic. You should not only state the positives, but include negative points and research done as well.

The reader will than analyze all your points and make conclusion on himself based on the facts mentioned in the body.

 

Conclusion

The final and most important part is your conclusion, so make sure to add it and give importance in your paper. Conclusion is like a glue that bonds your entire paper together. Summarize all your points, give your opinion and give suggestions on future research’s, which can be done regarding your topic. The main purpose of an essay is to be informative and a reliable reading material for the reader.
